A kettle’s pouring characteristics are important in two ways. One, if you like pour over coffee, you’ll want to reduce the flow to a slow, steady stream. Cleaning and maintenance

Exterior Cleaning

• Use a soft damp cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use any abrasive cleansers or scouring
pads as this will damage or scratch the surface.
• Clean the base with a damp cloth.
• Keep all connectors and sockets dry

Interior Cleaning

The interior of the Secura water kettle is made of high quality stainless steel. There is no
plastic in contact with hot water, which provides you with safe daily use. To ensure that your
kettle enjoys a substantially longer life and operates at maximum effi ciency, we do not apply
any coatings, since they can peel off or wear away. Cleaning is something that should be
done regularly. We suggest that owners rely on Bar Keeper’s Friend Stainless Steel Cleanser
and Polish to keep the stainless steel interior in top condition. We also recommend the use
of purified or deionized water for the for the least amount of mineral build-up on the interior.

• To remove stubborn spots/marks on the interior, wipe the surface with a slightly dampened
cloth and a small amount of Bar Keeper’s Friend or other mild, non-abrasive stainless steel
cleaner (following the instructions on the container). Rinse with water and wipe dry with a
clean soft cloth.
• Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents or solvents.
• Do not open, change or service any parts yourself.

When water is boiled, minerals in the water form deposits on the interior of the kettle. We
recommend that you descale your kettle regularly, even in soft water areas. Lime scale may
be white colored or even rusty-looking, but it is normally visible. Phosphate scale is not
generally visible, but there is usually a build-up, even in soft water areas. Any build-up of
scale may cause overheating, which reduces the life of the heating element, and may trigger
the Boil Dry Protection sensor. Descale periodically to help keep your kettle in top working
order.

Storage

Unplug the unit from the wall outlet and clean all the parts as instructed above. Ensure that
all parts are dry before storing.
• Store the appliance in its box or in a clean, dry place.
• Never store the appliance while it is still wet or dirty.
• Never wrap the power cord around the appliance.

Secura the Original Stainless Steel electric kettle SWK-1701DB customer review

100% All-Stainless Steel Interior, including the Lid and Pour Spout!

I have searched far and wide over the years for the holy grail of electric kettles: a 100% all-stainless steel interior. I first began with a Hamilton Beach 40898, which I thought had a stainless steel interior except I discovered that the inside of the lid was plastic. I have researched over 3-4 dozen models and this is only one of two models that I’ve found that not only has stainless steel in the bottom portion which is in contact with the boiling water, but also the inside of the top lid. Practically all the electric kettles on the market claim to have a “stainless steel interior,” yet neglect to mention about a plastic lid. Although that lid is not in direct contact with the boiling water, the steam that rises will condensate on the lid and then drip back down into your water. In my perspective, indirect contact is equivalent to direct contact. Although manufacturers claim that any plastic that they use is “BPA-free,” they fail to mention that plastic contains other components that have even more detrimental synthetic estrogenic effects than BPA. I believe that hot steam coming into contact with the plastic everyday for years will degrade the plastic material and result in “leakage”. The Secura pour spout also is all steel and has a little steel lip to prevent any water coming into contact with the plastic exterior housing.

The other model I’ve found that has an all-stainless steel interior is designed by Precise Heat. I prefer the Secura for these reasons:

-Double-wall construction keeps the boiled water hot longer. Also exterior is cool to the touch.
-Secura feels more robust.
-Uses British Strix control to conserve energy when reheating already hot or warm water.

It’s hard for me to allocate time to write Amazon reviews, but I took the time because I love my Secura kettle so much. With the cold winter weather, I find myself using my Secura kettle 3+ times per day. My only suggestion for this item is to offer a model with all stainless exterior as well, although the black exterior is not half bad.

In kettle news, I was very excited to hear about the new OXO On Cordless Glass Electric Kettle. The see-through glass container with all stainless steel seemed to be the perfect marriage of design, function, and safety. Alas, after doing some further digging, contacting OXO, I was informed that it has silicone seals in the bottom and a plastic inner lid on top. By the way, silicone has also not been proven to be 100% safe for human consumption as some types of silicone could contain siloxane compounds that may cause adverse reproductive, neurological, and immune effects.
