Dezin electric kettle customer review
It’s good for what it is
This is a bare-bones electric kettle, mostly steel with no submerged plastic or exposed element. (While the lid is lined with a stainless steel cap, the plastic hinge that holds it on IS exposed to steam during use and often drips condensation through the tab that locks the lid, especially if opened while the pot is still hot.
And it will be hot. Not insulated and unlined steel carafe gets very hot to the touch. The handle does not get hot (nor the lid,) and it is comfortable to hold and pour, but is situated in such a way that if pouring from a max fill, the steam can trail up and burn your fingers. It will also raise the ambient temperature of a small room by one or two degrees, which is welcome here, but maybe not elsewhere.
It is impossible to drain completely because of an unusually tight rim, which leads to the issue of cleaning…
This requires frequent descaling if you have hard water, and I highly recommend the manufacturer’s suggestion of brewing loose leaf tea directly in the pot before your first use. I don’t know if it’s steel polish or some other coating, but the “new pot” smell/taste was unpleasant, even after several washings and a vinegar cycle rinse. The tea seemed to take care of that flavor instantly.
If you have large hands (or even medium-sized hands) you will possibly need a bottle brush to clean this. I have taken to emptying the pot while it’s still hot and leaving the lid open after use to air dry, but it does still need a brush for the weekly descaling. It has the benefit of a hidden heating element, so it does clean up very easily. But that rim…
The automatic shut-off works well, although can take longer to trip the less water is in the pot or if the room is very cold. I’ve only been using it for six or eight weeks, so cannot attest to long term durability. Otherwise it’s pretty solidly (if plainly) constructed.
The base unit disc is lighter than the cord attached to it (which is fully safety compliant for this type of device, i.e. it’s very short,) so proper placement could be an issue for some and it does slide around a bit through normal use.
All-in-all, despite the flaws I find this an acceptable single-purpose appliance for daily use without extra features I don’t need at an extremely affordable price. Good for a dorm cabin or workshop, but not your niece’s wedding.
I would buy it again for myself, but I would not give it as a gift, if that makes any sense.

The Cuisinart CPK-17 won us over with its consistent performance and easy-to-use interface. In our tests, we found very little variation in the amount of time it took to bring a liter of water to a boil. We were also impressed with its accuracy in holding water at a set temperature. It has six preset temperature choices, each with a dedicated button, plus a “keep warm” function that holds water at the set temperature for 30 minutes. The three-year warranty is also quite a bit more generous than the coverage for similarly priced electric kettles we looked at.
The willowy spout on the OXO Brew Pour-Over Kettle gives you the control necessary for executing the perfect pour-over, plus this kettle comes with all sorts of features that aid in creating an ideal cup of coffee or tea. The controls are totally intuitive and allow you to adjust the water temperature in 1-degree increments from 140 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit (or 40 to 100 degrees Celsius). The OXO also reliably hits those settings, beeps when it’s ready, and will hold the temperature for up to 30 minutes before automatically shutting off. And as a nice bonus, it comes with a built-in timer that allows you to regulate each stage of your pour-over.
We recommend the inexpensive Hamilton Beach 40880 Stainless Steel 1.7 Liter Electric Kettle for anyone who doesn’t want to break the bank but still wants a decent kettle for boiling water. This stainless steel model is very straightforward, with a simple on/off switch at the base of the handle. It heated water just as quickly as the Cuisinart CPK-17 in our tests, and it shuts off automatically as soon as it reaches a boil (a good safety feature, but you’ll need to stay close, since there’s no beep to alert you when it’s done). The large, heatsafe handle stays cool, and the spout doesn’t dribble when pouring.
