Build

The kettle is stainless steel and there is one piece of food grade silicone inside the kettle to seal the temperature probe.

Design

This stainless steel kettle features a long gooseneck spout, a cordless 360° swivel base that makes it easy to grab and place back, and a removable lid with tension adjusters to ensure a tight fit.

This 1-liter kettle is made of brushed stainless steel, with BPA-free plastic on the base, the handle, and lid knob. While the ergonomically designed handle is very comfortable to hold, we feel that the black plastic takes away from the stylishness of the brushed metal finish and makes the kettle look cheaper than it is.

How to use Bonavita 1.0L variable temperature electric kettle?

1. Set the base on a flat, even and steady surface.
2. Remove the kettle from the base. Place the waterproof cover on top of base.(ill. A)
3. Take off the lid. Fill the kettle with cold water (ill. B). Do not fill over the ‘max’ indicator marking.
4. After filling the kettle with water, insert the lid into kettle with holes facing towards handle. Plug the
   power cord into the standard wall outlet. (ill. C)
5. Put the kettle firmly on the base and press the on/off button. The power on indicator light will turn
   on. The display flashes the set temperature for 3 seconds. (ill. D).
6. The factory default temperature is 185°F (85°C)

Cleaning

To clean your Bonavita Electric Kettle, mix descaling powder (alternatively, you can use white vinegar) and lukewarm water. Pour it into the kettle, boil it and use the Keep Warm feature to maintain it hot for around 15 minutes, but not longer than an hour. You can then discard the boiling water and rinse the kettle. However, if you see black marks, you should probably do a second descaling process.

Is there plastic inside the kettle?

Yes, there is plastic inside the kettle. There is a part that holds the plastic handle that connects to the inside of the kettle along with a silicone washer and some metal screws. That plastic piece collects steam which will then drip into the water inside the kettle. There is also a silicone washer around the thermometer. If it’s pure silicone then that wouldn’t be considered plastic but it’s hard to tell if it’s pure silicone without any additives.

Akin to buying last year’s flagship model – in a good way.

Size: 1.0 Liters

One year into trading my coffee addiction to one for tea, it was time to invest in the proper tools of the trade. After falling into my usual Google rabbit hole, I landed on the Bonavita.

1. Heating time: not as speedy as others, but that’s only a concern whilst you’re obsessively angst-ing over reviews – it’s plenty fast IRL.
2. The UI is a tad clunky, but if you’re using the same settings daily, it’s fine.
3. People made issue with having to press the ‘hold’ button to maintain temp whenever the kettle’s removed from the base. Whatever – hardly a herculean task.
4. Haven’t experienced the ‘HI ERR’ glitch (yet).

Otherwise, the Bonavita met my purchasing criteria: accurate temp control, BPA-free, small footprint, and a capacity that’s less than what’s required for an Italian wedding.

I would highly recommend this unit as it’s increased my QOL by at least 2.75%. And, while it lacks some of the glossier features of newer products, I’m pretty sure people have managed to enjoy tea throughout antiquity without using an app.
