I’ve been looking for a new kettle for a while but wasn’t willing to pay a high price. This kettle isn’t cheap but gives temperature options for tea drinkers. It looks great on my counter and I love the keep warm function. I can put the kettle on in the morning and have hot water waiting for me before I leave for work! Remember to leave lots of water in the kettle if you are using the keep warm function. It could damage the kettle if it ran dry while heating.

OXO Produces Another Winner!
This is a fantastic kettle – heats 1 liter of water to 200+ degrees in less than the time it takes to weigh and grind my coffee and keeps the set temperature for 30 minutes. Comfortable handle and good control of pouring into the dripper. The kettle controls are simple and intuitive. Some reviewers have had problems with the electric circuit tripping from the high current draw. Modern kitchens have 20A outlets so this isn’t a problem. If you live in an older building with 15A outlets you might have problems if anything else is plugged in to the same circuit and drawing power at the same time.
Update – January 2020
After 2 years of daily use, the unit stopped heating due to failure of the base unit. I couldn’t find the manual so I called OXO customer service to ask about warranty coverage. They emailed a claim form which I returned with the Amazon order form, the unit serial number and a photo of the base unit with the power cord cut (to prevent duplicate claims?). A complete replacement unit arrived in less than a week. I expected OXO customer service to be as good as their products and I was not disappointed – a relatively early product failure is obviously unpleasant, but they did everything to make things right.

Best kettle ever, the most stainless steel I’ve seen
I was looking for a completely stainless steel product and had to return one kettle I bought before I found this. I love this kettle because it only has a plastic spout component. The entire inside that touches water directly and even the lid are stainless steel- no silicone bolts, no plastic measuring components! There are measuring marks inside the kettle.
Some people are complaining about the plastic smell- it is NOT coming from inside the kettle but from outside because the base that heats the kettle is plastic. I specifically tested that once I smelled plastic. Even that smell goes away.
Plus the kettle looks super cute, boils the water extremely quickly without creating a large cloud of steam. Love everything about it!

I recently purchased this Electric Water Heater because I kept having to replace my regular stove top kettle (the average cost was $45.00). What a difference this Electric Kettle has made! It heats up the water in record time, saves energy and shuts itself off when the water starts to boil. The blue light when in use is an added plus. I also like that I can see the amount of water that is in the kettle at all times and will know when it’s time to clean it. Good, quiet, quick electric kettle
I was excited when this finally arrived. I’ve been a stove top water boiler for a while but my tea kettle was becoming warped and noisy, so I thought I’d try an electric kettle.
I read the instructions; which were pretty standard: Don’t burn yourself and electricity plus water is bad.
I gave it the recommended cleaning and filled the kettle a little below max fill. Then I put it on the base, plugged it in and flipped the switch.
It was so much quieter than I was expecting and boiled the water in just a few minutes. The outside was safe to touch as well.
I’m really happy and think its great for the money.

Oh Joy, Oh Bliss. If this is for you or for anyone else for whom you are considering buying this tea maker, DO IT. My husband kept saying we didn’t need an instant tea maker because it is easy to make tea the old fashioned way. True, it is easy to make tea using a teapot, but I’m not a morning person. I am REALLY not a morning person and I don’t drink coffee, only tea. I kept glaring at his programmable coffee maker, and one day, I snapped. Realising I was contemplating smashing my husband’s coffee maker over his head and murdering him if he sighed happily over his first cup of pre-made, ready and waiting morning coffee one more time, I decided that it was history for him and his coffee pot or a Breville tea maker for me. Fortunately the Black Friday sales were on and I got the tea maker at almost reasonable price.
I got tired of replacing electric tea kettles every year and bought a Breville tea kettle, which I have had since since 2009, and which still woks like a charm. That’s why I chose the Breville tea maker, which seems to be as well built as their tea kettle. There is nothing flimsy about it and the various settings available are wonderful for the dedicated tea drinker. The glass pot is solid and the water heats up very quickly. I used to set a timer when I was making tea in a teapot, but sometimes I would get busy and not hear it. An hour or so later, I would be faced with an extremely bitter brew. The Breville tea maker is great because it removes this problem by lowering and raising the basket of tea leaves as programmed.
So, for anyone who loves tea and would like to hang onto their spouse or significant other, I highly recommend the Breville Tea Maker. It’s expensive, but if purchased on sale the “ouch” factor will be reduced. If it lasts as long as the Breville Tea Kettle, it is also less expensive than a cheaper, unreliable product in the long run..

I Cracked the Leaking Mystery!
Like some others here have commented, I noticed a pool of water beneath my kettle the first two times I used it. Weird, I thought. I ALMOST returned it. But then, I figured something out that I hope will spare others the pain of believing they must return this otherwise perfect kitchen necessity.
Turns out that the “max” line indicated for water level inside the pitcher is NOT the line you should fill to. Instead, if you fill with water to a point falling between the indicated “max” and “min” lines, then your tea kettle will no longer “leak.” Nevermind any bitter thoughts on how an item should work without us having to muddle out its quirks. Manufacturers, like the rest of us, are imperfect. But if you can get over this teensy flaw, you get to keep an otherwise delightful and useful tea kettle.
The only other thing I should mention is that it is quite heavy, so your little ones and some elderly will have a lot of difficulty wielding it. For the rest of us, we get a bicep bonus workout! Oh, goody!

The AmazonBasics Stainless Steel Electric Kettle is one of the most inexpensive options we looked at. It took the same amount of time to boil a liter of water as the Hamilton Beach 40880, but the design is clunky, and we found it less comfortable to hold and pour.
The Bonavita BV382510V 1.0L Digital Variable Temperature Gooseneck, our former budget pick, is a small, 1-liter gooseneck kettle that’s lightweight and easy to hold. Like the OXO pour-over kettle, you can set the Bonavita to any temperature between 140 and 212 °F. It can also hold a set temperature for up to an hour, 30 minutes longer than the OXO or the Cuisinart. However, it takes longer to come to a boil than either of those kettles and lacks audible cues to let you know when your water is ready. We removed this kettle as a pick after noticing too many complaints about rust and other durability issues.
The Brewista Smart Pour Variable Temperature Kettle rated quite highly in our tests, especially since you can program it to start heating at a later time (a unique feature amongst pour-over kettles). And it has all of the other qualities we look for in a gooseneck, such as precision pouring, adjustable temperature settings, and an LCD screen that clocks and displays the current temperature of the water in real time. That said, it took twice as long to boil as the similarly-priced OXO pour-over kettle and has more complicated controls.
We expect some serious bells and whistles from a $150 kettle. And hey, the Fellow Stagg EKG Electric Pour-Over Kettle does boast an “Easter egg” in the shape of a Wormy game, which pops up when you remove the kettle from the base and switch the Fahrenheit/Celsius toggle back and forth. But ultimately we don’t think it’s worth the price, given its rather small capacity (just under a liter) and minimal heatsafe surfaces. While the all-black matte has aesthetic appeal, it makes it hard to keep track of hot spots.
The Secura 1.8 Quart Stainless Steel Cordless Electric Kettle did very well in our tests and is currently around the same price as our budget pick, but it lacks a water-level window. According to a Secura representative, the small hole on the interior allows steam to reach the bottom interior of the unit, where the temperature control is located. We found, however, that cleaning in between the walls of the kettle would be impossible, so we dismissed this model.
We appreciated the reasonable price, intuitive controls, and clearly labeled temperature settings of the Willow & Everett Electric Gooseneck Kettle. Still, it was somewhat heavy and unwieldy, and the top was tough to remove, which could present a safety issue if still hot. Finally, it’s speed in coming to temperature wasn’t great—5 minutes, 40 seconds.
The Tribest Glass Raw Tea Kettle GKD-450-B lacks a push button on the handle. Its blue light constantly turns on and off until it reaches the desired temperature, something we found annoying.
The Melitta 40994 1.7 Liter Kettle ranked among the top-selling kettles and had decent reviews on Amazon at the time we checked. While we like the damped lid, this model is a bit too expensive for a basic kettle.
Cleaning and usage tips
To minimize the amount of mineral deposit buildup in your kettle, always empty it after you use it. You’ll still need to decalcify your kettle from time to time, though the frequency depends on the hardness of your water. Check the manual for the manufacturer’s specific instructions on descaling; otherwise, you can fill the kettle with 1 cup of white vinegar and 3 cups of water, heat it to a boil, turn it off, and allow it to stand overnight. Alternatively, half a teaspoon of cream of tartar with half a kettle of water should work. After emptying the kettle, refill it with water only, bring it to a boil, and drain; repeat with water twice more.
Some kettles come with a mesh filter for trapping calcium deposits, and you’ll need to clean it periodically—more often if you have hard water. Follow the instructions in the manual for removing the filter, and clean it with a cloth or brush under hot water. For hard-to-remove calcium deposits, let the filter sit overnight in a solution of one part water to three parts white vinegar; rinse thoroughly before returning it to the kettle.
